MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Kristofer Johnson win at No. 5 singles helped the Alabama State men's tennis team edge Mercer Univeristy 4-3 on Wednesday at the Olean Black Underwood Tennis Center.
With match tied 3-3, Johnson defeated MacLeod, 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 at No. 5 singles to clinch the win for the Hornets.
Mercer grabbed a 1-0 lead winning two-of-three doubles matches heading into the single competition. Ruan Du Preez and Sam Bajracharya (ASU) def. Mariano Argote/Samuel MacLeod (MER) 6-2 at No. 1 doubles.
Grandinot defeated Argote, 6-3, 6-3 at No. 1 followed by Du Preez's 7-6, 7-6 win over Lucas Dini at No. 2 singles and Rodriguez's 6-2, 3-6, 6-1 win over Andrew Branicki at No. 6 to tie the match 3-3.
UP NEXT: Alabama State hosts Alabama A&M on Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Olean Black Underood Tennis Center.
