GRAMBLING, La. | The Alabama State Hornets closed out the 2022-23 season on a sour note, falling to homestanding Grambling State, 69-49, at the Fredrick C. Hobdy Assembly Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Alabama State led by as many as seven points in the first half, including at the 9:15 mark on Duane Posey's two free throws for a 23-16 lead.
- A 9-1 run by the Tigers gave them a brief lead with 4:47 to play in the half before Eric Coleman's jumper gave the Hornets the lead for the rest of first period.
- Jordan O'Neal's dunk put ASU up by four, 29-25, late in the first. Grambling's Criston Cameron hit two free throws to cut the lead to a point, 29-28, at the break.
- The Hornets pushed the lead back to five to open the second half on another dunk by O'Neal. They had a six-point lead with 15:57 to go before ASU hit a dry spell, going scoreless for four-plus minutes and allowing the Tigers to take a lead they would not relinquish.
- Grambling outscored the Hornets, 11-2, in a four-minute span to take a 51-39 lead with 9:12 left.
- The Tigers built their biggest lead at 24 points with 3:03 left in the game.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- O'Neal's 13 points led the Hornets in scoring. He added six rebounds, two blocks and two steals.
- Christian McCray had 10 points, while TJ Madlock added eight.
- The Hornets shot just 38 percent in the second half on 8-of-21 shooting. They were 1 of 5 behind the arc.
