Hornets drop heartbreaker on the road at Texas Southern to close road trip

HOUSTON, Texas | Alabama State got a pair of shots up in the final four seconds but couldn't get one to fall in a 56-55 loss to Texas Southern at the H&PE Arena on Monday night in Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) action.

Alabama State (10-10, 5-2 SWAC) led most of the way until late when Texas Southern was able to take a one-point lead on a pair of Deon Stroud free throws. The Hornets had a chance to take the lead but missed a jumper with 33 seconds remaining, before causing a turnover to set up the last possession with 23 seconds to play.

The Hornets got the ball to TJ Madlock who was triple-teamed on the baseline, forcing a pass to Amarr Knox who missed a three with six seconds to play but found the hands of CJ Hines. He was able to feed it to Knox who got it to Madlock in the corner with the three coming up short at the buzzer.
