Four Alabama State players collect at least two hits in loss to Houston Christian

MONTGOMERY, Ala. --Alabama State University had four players notch multiple hits, but the Hornets fell to the Houston Christian University 4-3 in game nine of the 2024 Stinger Classic at the Barbara Williams Softball complex on Saturday.

Junior Charity Bibbs (0-2) got the ball to start for Alabama State (0-2) and took the loss. The right-hander went seven innings, giving up four runs, all of them earned, on six hits, allowing no walks and striking out three.

Senior Kindal DeRamus led the hit barrage for the Hornets, going 2-for-4 in the ballgame. Sophomore Brooke Ramsey furnished a standout effort as well, going 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Trailing 1-0, the Hornets first put runs on the board in the first inning. Alabama State pushed across two runs in the frame, the big blow coming on an RBI double from Ramsey.

The Huskies then rallied to score three runs and take a 4-2 lead before the Hornets got back on the board in the fourth. Sophomore JaNiyah Boykin came across to score the lone run of the inning for Alabama State, which tightened the Huskies lead to 4-3. The Hornets were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.
