All Alabama State starters reach base in 17-4 victory over MVSU

MONTGOMERY, Ala., | Alabama State got contributions from every part of their lineup, as all nine starters reached base safely, helping the Hornets put 17 runs on the board and defeat the Mississippi Valley State Delta Devilettes 17-4 Saturday.

Junior Ashley Pye (3-4) started in the circle and picked up the win for Alabama State (21-23, ). The right-hander went five innings, giving up four runs, three earned, on five hits, allowing one walk and striking out three.

In the batter's box, the Hornets were led by sophomore Brooke Ramsey, who went 2-for-3 on the day with a triple and three RBI. Senior Kindal DeRamus put together a standout day at the plate as well, going 3-for-3 with a double and two RBI. Freshman Kendall Smiley also helped out for Alabama State, putting together three hits in four trips to the plate while adding two RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Hornets got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with one run in the bottom of the first inning. Alabama State's offense started clicking and put up seven runs, including a two-run single off the bat of Smiley and a two-run triple from Ramsey.

The Delta Devilettes failed to push any runs across before the Hornets offense got back to their scoring ways the next inning. The Alabama State offense exploded for seven runs, highlighted by a one-run flyout off the bat of DeRamus, which brought the Hornets lead to 14-0.

Alabama State held Mississippi Valley State scoreless before expanding their lead to 15-0 the following inning. The Hornets scored once on an RBI single off the bat of junior Zoee Disroe.

The Delta Devilettes gained ground, closing the gap to 15-2 until Alabama State added some insurance in the fourth. The Hornets scored twice, with one run coming across on freshman Alora Bevily's single, bringing the Alabama State advantage to 17-2. Mississippi Valley State put two runs on the scoreboard before the game was over, but the Hornets still coasted to the 17-4 win.
