JACKSONVILLE, Ala. | Freshman Kendall Smiley went 1-for-3 for the Alabama State University softball in a 7-2 loss to the Jacksonville State University at Jana McGinnis Field on Wednesday.
Freshman Kohana Pousson (2-5) got the ball to start for Alabama State (17-20, ) and took the loss. Freshman Ana Richiez was a bright spot for the Hornets, coming out of the bullpen and throwing two shutout innings, allowing no hits.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hornets were trailing 7-0 in the fifth inning when they first put runs on the board. Sophomore Brooke Ramsey came across to score the lone run of the inning for Alabama State and get them on the board.
The Hornets kept the Gamecocks off the board before narrowing the gap further in the seventh. Sophomore JaNiyah Boykin came across to score the lone run of the inning for Alabama State, which brought the score to 7-2 in favor of the Gamecocks. The ballgame ended with that seventh inning rally falling short.
