Lady Hornets Fall 74-44 at Jackson State

JACKSON, Miss. | The Alabama State Univeristy women's basketball team fell 74-44 to the Jackson State University on the road Saturday.

Taylor Smith led the Hornets (4-12, 2-2) with 10 points and eight rebounds. Cordasia Harris tacked on seven points and eight rebounds and Justina Graham chipped in as well with six points and six rebounds off the bench.

Graham pulled down four offensive rebounds to pace an offense that racked up second chance opportunities for Alabama State, grabbing 10 boards and turning them into nine second chance points.

How It Happened

Alabama State struggled out of the gate, falling behind 19-10 at the end of the first quarter.

Jackson State kept adding to that lead, building a 27-14 advantage before Alabama State went on a 5-0 run to narrow its deficit to 27-19, a score that would hold until halftime.

Alabama State's deficit continued to grow after halftime, and the Hornets faced a 47-30 disadvantage heading to the fourth quarter. Alabama State played well near the basket, scoring six of its 11 points in the paint.

Alabama State could not pull any closer in the fourth, losing by a final of 74-44. Alabama State fired away from deep in the quarter, knocking down two shots to account for six of its 14 points.
