COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Alabama State delivered one of its most explosive offensive performances of the season, shooting nearly 60 percent from the field and rolling past IU Indy 101–80 on Friday afternoon at Clune Arena in the first round of the Air Force Classic MTE event.
The Hornets took control midway through the first half and never looked back, pouring in 59 points before the break while shooting a blistering 69.4 percent in the opening period.
After trailing briefly in the early minutes, Alabama State unleashed an 11-0 run and steadily built a double-digit advantage before taking a 59–45 lead into halftime.
Simpson and Anderson Set the Tone
Micah Simpson ran the Hornet offense masterfully, scoring 17 points and handing out nine assists while also grabbing five rebounds and posting four steals.
Asjon Anderson was just as impactful, finishing with 19 points, seven assists, and three rebounds while shooting a perfect 8-for-8 from the free-throw line.
Dominance in the Paint
Alabama State's size and physicality overwhelmed IU Indy, outscoring the Jaguars 52–20 in the paint and turning IU Indy's mistakes into 28 fast-break points.
R'Chaun King added 21 points and six rebounds, while
Jerquarius Stanback powered the interior with 10 points, six boards, and three blocks.
Second-Half Control
IU Indy briefly chipped into the deficit early in the second half, but the Hornets responded with another surge, pushing the lead to as many as 23 points with 3:35 to play, their largest margin of the afternoon.
The Jaguars were led by JP Dragas, who hit six three-pointers and scored 20 points, while Aiden Miller added 11 points and six rebounds off the bench.
