Alabama State falls short in 77-67 loss to Grambling

MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- The Alabama State men's basketball team came up short in a 77-67 loss to the Grambling Tigers at home Saturday.

The Hornets (9-14, 5-5) had four players score in double figures, led by Amarr Knox, who had 17 points and four assists. TJ Madlock added 15 points, six rebounds, four assists, two steals, and Jasteven Walker chipped in with 11 points, seven rebounds, and two steals.

The Alabama State offense was very productive from deep, pouring in eight threes on 24 attempts. Cj Hines was the most prolific shooter for the Hornets, draining three treys in the contest.

The Alabama State defense effectively took away the basketball in Saturday's game, forcing 14 Grambling turnovers while committing 10. Those takeaways turned into 24 points on the offensive end of the floor. Walker's two steals led the way individually for the Hornets.

How It Happened

Alabama State struggled out of the gate, falling behind 38-28 heading into halftime.

Grambling kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 65-48 advantage before Alabama State went on an 11-0 run to shrink the deficit to 65-59 with 4:55 to go in the contest. Grambling responded and outscored the Hornets the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 77-67.
