Alabama State Softball Splits Doubleheader with FAMU

TALLAHASSEE, Fla.  |  Alabama State University softball split a doubleheader with Florida A&M University to Southwestern Athletiic Conference play on Friday.

GAME 1 | Alabama State 2, Florida A&M 1

TALLAHASSEE, Fla.  |  Alabama State's plated one-run fifth inning that proved to be the difference, as the Hornets emerged with a 2-1 win over Florida A&M University in one of a SWAC doubleheader on Friday.

Sophomore Kohana Pouson (2-3) started in the circle and picked up the win for Alabama State (3-19, 1-0). The right-hander went seven innings, giving up one run on five hits, allowing three walks and striking out three.

In the batter's box, the Hornets were paced by freshman Talee Sims, who went 2-for-2 on the day with a walk. Freshman Ayana Frank put together a standout day at the dish as well, going 1-for-3 with an RBI. Junior Alana Scott also chipped in for Alabama State, putting together one hit in four trips to the plate while adding an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Hornets were trailing 1-0 in the second inning when they first put runs on the board. Alabama State got an RBI single from Frank, scoring Sims from second base.

The score stayed at 1-1 until the fifth inning, when the Hornets put runs on the scoreboard once again. Alabama State scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Scott, which brought the score to 2-1 in favor of the Hornets. The score remained 2-1 for the rest of the game, as Alabama State held on for the win.

TALLAHASSEE, Florida --Senior Alexia Denby went 2-for-3 for the Alabama State University softball in a 14-1 loss to the Florida A&M University in the nightcap of a the SWAC doubleheader on Friday.

Senior Ashley Pye (3-5) got the ball to start for Alabama State (3-20, 1-1) and took the loss.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Trailing 6-0, the Hornets first put runs on the board in the second inning. Freshman Talee Sims came across to score the lone run of the inning for Alabama State and get them on the board. The Hornets were unable to get any closer, as Florida A&M added eight runs to their tally on the way to a 14-1 final.
