MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Though they had plenty of opportunities, Alabama State University softball had a hard time cashing them in, leaving 10 on base in a 4-3 setback at the hands of the Florida A&M on Sunday.
Freshman Kaitlyn Hill (4-12) got the ball to start for Alabama State (16-34, 14-10) and took the loss. Sophomore Kohana Pouson was a bright spot for the Hornets, coming out of the bullpen and throwing 3.2 scoreless innings, allowing two hits, with no walks and one strikeout.
At the plate, the Hornets were paced by junior Brooke Ramsey, who went 2-for-3 on the day with a walk and an RBI. Freshman Jaibriel Terrell compiled a noteworthy day at the dish as well, going 1-for-2 with two walks and an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 1-0, the Hornets first put runs on the board in the first inning. Ramsey's run-scoring single highlighted a two-run inning for Alabama State.
The Rattlerettes then rallied to score three runs and take a 4-2 lead before the Hornets got back on the board in the sixth. Alabama State scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Terrell, which tightened the Rattlerettes lead to 4-3. The Hornets were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.
