GULFPORT, Miss. | The Alabama State Softball team's 2025 season came to a close with a 2-1 loss to Florida A&M in an elimination game at the SWAC Tournament on Saturday.
Alabama State finishes the season 18-6 overall and 14-10 in SWAC play.
Florida A&M scored a run in the bottom of the seventh to claim the win and advance to the championship round. The Rattlers will have win two games against the defending tournaent champion Jackson State to win the tournament.
Kohana Pousson (8-11) got the start for Alabama State (18-36), allowing two runs on eight hits with two strikeouts to take the loss in the circle.
Jaibriel Terrell's two extra base hits were the highlight of a 2-for-4 day, and included a double and a triple. Senior Leah Richardson put together a standout effort as well, going 1-for-2 with a double, a walk and an RBI. Freshman Ayana Frank also chipped in for the Hornets, putting together two hits in three trips to the plate.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 1-0, the Hornets first put runs on the board in the fifth inning. Alabama State got on the board thanks to Richardson's RBI double with one out. Florida A&M then scored one time over the remaining two innings to break the tie and grab the 2-1 win.
