KNOXVILLE, Tenn. | The Alabama State University men's tennis team put a hard fight against No. 14-ranked University of Tennessee eventually falling 4-0 at the NCAA Tournament on Friday afternoon at the Goodfriend Tennis Center.
Shunsuke Mitsui and Alan Jesudason secured 6-1 victory on Court 2, followed closely by James Newton and Lance Nisbet's 6-1 win on Court 3 to clinch the point. On Court 1, the duo of Alex Kotzen and Alejandro Moreno led 5-3 before their match was left unfinished.
Jose Garcia captured a 6-1, 6-2 win over Lun Obrul, and Ian Cruz beat Eloi Roux 6-0, 6-1 on court 6. Alan Jesudason sealed the match on court 4, defeating Matis Amier 6-3, 6-3.
When play was halted, three singles matches remained unfinished with Tennessee leading or tied in all:
Alabama State concludes its campaign at 15-11 overall winning their fourth straight SWAC regular season and tournament title. Tennessee improved to 21-8 on the season and will face Duke in the second round on Sunday.
