GULFPORT, Miss. | Alabama State jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, earning a 7-3 win over Florida A&M in the second round of the 2025 SWAC Softball Tournament at the Gulfport Sportsplex.
The Hornets (18-34) exploded for four runs in the first inning and added two more in the second to take control of the contest. Jaibriel Terrell sparked the offense, reaching base three times and scoring three runs, while Leah Richardson, Talee Sims, and Bailee Williams each drove in a run.
Terrell and Alana Scott set the tone at the top of the lineup, combining for three hits, five runs scored, and four stolen bases. Alabama State's aggressive baserunning and timely hitting proved decisive, as the Hornets tallied 11 hits on the night.
Kohana Pousson was stellar in relief, tossing seven innings and allowing just one earned run on eight hits while striking out seven. Pousson entered in the first inning with the bases loaded and navigated out of trouble to secure her eighth win of the season (8-10).
Florida A&M (24-19) tallied 11 hits but left 11 runners on base. Amari Brown led the Rattlers with two hits and an RBI. Alabama State capitalized on two Florida A&M errors to extend its lead throughout the game.
The Hornets advance to play Jackson Stte on Thursday at 3:30 p.m.
