HUMBLE, Texas  | Alabama State closed out the final day of the SWAC West Round Up with a 3-1 record in traditional play Sunday, securing a second-place finish at the three-day event hosted by Prairie View A&M.

The Hornets finished the tournament with a 9-5 overall record and 12,611 total pins across 14 traditional matches, averaging 180.2 pins per game. Alabama State entered the final day in the middle of the standings before climbing into second place behind Jackson State, which won the event with a 12-2 record.

Alabama State posted wins over Prairie View A&M (972-928), Alabama A&M (968-891) and Florida A&M (907-835), while falling to Texas Southern (944-891) during the final stretch of competition.

Individually, the Hornets placed five bowlers among the top 30 in the final standings. Olivia Miller led Alabama State with a sixth-place finish overall, rolling a 188.21 average over 14 games and totaling 2,635 pins. Taylor Lee followed closely in ninth place with a 186.36 average and 2,609 total pins.

Jenna Knight finished 11th overall with a 182.50 average, while Nikia Thomas placed 24th at 173.79. Nevaeh Williams rounded out Alabama State's scoring five, finishing 29th with a 169.93 average.

Jackson State's Paige Hubert earned individual honors with a tournament-best 209.07 average, while Michele Westmoreland of Alabama A&M finished second at 196.71.

With the runner-up showing, Alabama State strengthened its position heading into the the SWAC East Rpund Up on Feb. 6-8 in Huntsville, Ala. 

The Hornets will return to the lanes on Jan. 23-25 in the Hawk Invitational hosted by Maryland Eastshort in Woodbrige, Va.
