MONGOMERY, Ala. |. The Alabama State University men's basketball team fell 69-54 loss to the Bethune-Cookman University at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome on Saturday.
The Hornets (6-15, 3-5) had two players score in double figures, led by Micah Simpson, who had 16 points and two steals. Tyler Byrd tacked on 13 points and three blocks and Cam Palesse added five points and five assists.
The Alabama State defense forced 20 Bethune-Cookman turnovers while committing 16. Those takeaways turned into 17 points on the offensive end of the floor. Mario Andrews led the way individually for the Hornets with two steals.
How It Happened
After jumping out to a 9-6 advantage, Alabama State went on a 9-0 run with 14:32 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Tyler MacK, to increase its lead to 18-6. Bethune-Cookman then responded to tie things up at 29-29 heading into halftime. Alabama State took advantage of 13 Bethune-Cookman turnovers in the period, scoring 13 points off those turnovers.
Bethune-Cookman built a 17-point lead in the second half with the lead never getting below nine points the rest of the way.
