MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Shamya Reid scored a game-high 19 points to lead three players in double figures as Alabama State University women's basketball pulled away for a 78-60 victory over Bethune-Cookman on Saturday at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome.
The Hornets used a strong second half to create separation after a competitive opening 20 minutes. Alabama State took a slim lead into halftime before outscoring the Wildcats in the third quarter, using defensive pressure and balanced scoring to take control.
Clearia Peterson added 16 points and eight rebounds for Alabama State, while Caylee Simpson chipped in 14 points to round out the Hornets in double figures. Alabama State shot efficiently from the field and dominated the glass, turning second-chance opportunities into points during the decisive stretch.
Bethune-Cookman was led by a team-high 13 points from Daimoni Dorsey, followed by Jordan Brooks with 12 points and Madison Holden with 10. Mya Johnson grabbed seven rebounds for the Wildcats.
Alabama State continued to push the tempo in the fourth quarter, extending the margin to as many as 22 points.
Alabama State hits the road for a pair of key SWAC contests, starting with league leader Southern University on Thursday at 6 p.m
