SAGINAW, Mich. - The Saginaw (Mich.) County Sports Hall of Fame inducted Alabama State women's basketball Hall of Famer Shameka Jackson into its Hall of Fame at its 24th Annual Induction Dinner and Banquet on Sunday at the Horizons Conference Center in Saginaw Township. The event brought together athletes, coaches, and community members to recognize local sporting achievements at every level.
The five-year Hornet women's basketball standout has fond memories of her high school career at Arthur Hill High School in Saginaw.
"My favorite memory from Arthur Hill was when Coach (Vonnie) Killmer would make us run suicides," Jackson said. "When it's happening, you hate it. But when you get through it, you see how the work ethic and foundation it provided were important.
Jackson brought that work ethic to Alabama State. She turned it into a Hall of Fame career that made her one of the greatest women's basketball players in the history of Alabama State University and the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC). She was inducted into the SWAC Hall of Fame in 2017, which was followed closely by an induction into Alabama State's Athletic Hall of Fame five years later.
