BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | Alabama State University forward Charlese McClandon was awarded the Southwestern Athletic Conference Newcomer of the Week on Tuesday. 

McClandon helped the Hornets to a 2-0 record with wins over Arkansas-Pine Bluff and Mississippi Valley State last week. The Waycross, Ga., native scored 10 points and had seven rebounds, two steals, and a block against MVSU. McClendon recorded her third double-double of the season, scoring 10 points and grabbing 15 rebounds against UAPB to end the week.
