NORMAN, Okla. | Talee Sims and Ayana Frank belted home runs as Alabama State University softball fell to No. 5 Oklahoma 23-3 on Friday.
Sophomore Kaitlyn Hill (3-1) got the ball to start for Alabama State (6-14) and took the loss.
In the batter's box, the Hornets were led by sophomore Talee Sims, who went 1-for-2 on the day with a home run and two RBI Sophomore Ayana Frank put together a standout performance at the plate as well, going 1-for-2 with a home run and an RBI. Junior Arianna Cox-Cole also helped out for Alabama State, putting together one hit in two trips to the plate while adding a double.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 6-0, the Hornets first put runs on the board in the second inning. Frank put Alabama State on the board with a leadoff home run off sophomore Miali Guachino.
The Hornets' deficit expanded to 15-1 before their offense got back on the scoreboard, cutting into that deficit in the fourth inning. Alabama State scored twice on Sims' two-run homer, which tightened the Sooners' lead to 15-3. The Hornets were unable to get any closer, as Oklahoma added eight runs to their tally on the way to a 23-3 final.
