MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State University guard Shamya Reid was selected the Southwestern Athletic Conference's Women's Basketball Newcomer of the Week announced on Tuesday.

Reid helped the Hornets to a 2-0 record with wins over Florida A&M and Bethune-Cookman. The Detroit, Mich., native averaged 14 points, three rebounds, three assists and two steals over two games last week.

Reid scored 12 points with four rebounds, four assists and four steals in ASU's win over Florida A&M. The junior followed up with 16 points, two rebounds, two assists and three steals against BCU. Reid also connected on 6-of-9 shots for 66.7 percent against the Wildcats.

Reid is the second straight Hornet to claim Newcomer of the Week honors. Clearia Peterson earned the honor for the previous week.
