Alabama State drops game with Georgia State in extra innings

ATLANTA, Ga. | The Alabama State University lost 8-7 in heartbreaking fashion to Georgia State University in eight-innings on Tuesday.

Amanda Cintron (3-5) got the ball to start for Alabama State (9-21) and took the loss. The right-hander went 4.2 innings, giving up two runs, one earned, on five hits, allowing two walks and striking out four.

Offensively, the Hornets were led by Addison Giles, who went 2-for-4 on the day with a double and an RBI. Brooke Ramsey put together a standout performance at the plate as well, going 1-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Arianna Cox-Cole also chipped in for Alabama State, putting together one hit in two trips to the plate while adding a double and an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Hornets put runs on the scoreboard first, starting the scoring in the second inning. Alabama State plated two runs off of Georgia State pitching, one of which was driven in on a run-scoring double off the bat of Cox-Cole.

The Hornets then lost some of their lead, expanding on their advantage in the fourth inning after the Panthers cut it to 2-1. The Alabama State offense exploded for four runs, highlighted by a two-run double off the bat of Ramsey, which brought the score to 6-1 in favor of the Hornets.

Georgia State narrowed Alabama State's lead to 6-4 before the Hornets stretched the advantage to 7-4 in the seventh inning. The Hornets were unable to hold the lead, as Georgia State scored four times over the remaining one inning to grab the 8-7 win.
