Hornets' Softball Drop SWAC Doubleheader to FAMU

MONTGOMERY, Ala. — Alabama State dropped both ends of a doubleheader to Florida A&M on Saturday at the Barbara Williams Softball Complex, falling 10-9 in 10 innings in the opener before being shut out 6-0 in the nightcap.

In game one, the Hornets (ASU) rallied multiple times but could not complete the comeback in extra innings. Florida A&M pushed across the decisive run in the 10th on an RBI single, holding on for the 10-9 victory.

Alabama State built an early 4-0 lead, highlighted by a two-run home run from Alana Scott in the second inning, but Florida A&M answered with a five-run fourth inning to take control.

The Hornets battled back, tying the game at 9-9 in the eighth on an RBI triple from Meshayla Pettaway and an RBI groundout by Brooke Ramsey. However, the Rattlers capitalized in extra innings to secure the win.

Kohana Pousson (4-6) was charged with the loss in relief, while S. Smith (6-3) earned the win for Florida A&M.

In game two, Florida A&M controlled the contest from the outset, scoring three runs in the second inning and never looking back in a 6-0 shutout.

Amanda Cintron (3-6) took the loss for Alabama State, while Florida A&M's A. Brown (2-2) tossed a complete-game shutout to earn the win.

Despite the loss, the Hornets collected nine hits but were unable to push a run across. Brooke Ramsey led the way with a perfect 3-for-3 performance at the plate, while Talee Sims added three hits of her own.

Ayana Frank and Arianna Cox-Cole also contributed hits, but Alabama State stranded 10 runners and went scoreless in key situations.

Alabama State will look to bounce back in its next SWAC series as it continues conference play.
