MONTGOMERY, Ala. — Alabama State dropped a 4-2 decision to UAB on Tuesday at the Olean Black Underwood Tennis Center, despite claiming the doubles point and picking up a singles victory.
The Hornets opened strong by securing the doubles point with wins on courts two and three. The tandem of Martin Catrice and Matteo Lataste evened doubles play with a victory over Conor Flynn and Axel Fréchet, before Milan Ristov and Eloi Roux clinched the point with a win against Kaustubh Holcomb and Tomas Tischner.
UAB responded in singles action, winning four completed matches to secure the team victory. Ondrej Valek defeated Milan Ristov at No. 1 singles, while Juan Pablo Valdez topped Flor De Sitter at the No. 2 position. Tomas Tischner added a point with a win over Gord Fran Mileusnic, and Axel Fréchet bested Vid Maric.
Alabama State's lone singles point came from Loris Gueli, who earned a victory over Kaustubh Holcomb. The match at No. 3 singles between Eloi Roux and Conor Flynn went unfinished.
