HUNTSVILLE, Ala. | Alana Scott drove in seven runs to help propel the Alabama State softball past the Alabama A&M University 22-2 on Friday.
Kaitlyn Hill (1-6) started in the circle and picked up the win for Alabama State (11-24, 5-5). The right-hander went five innings, giving up two runs, both of them earned, on four hits.
Scott went 2-for-4 with a triple and a home run in addition to her seven RBIs for the Hornets. Bailee Williams compiled a noteworthy day at the dish as well, going 1-for-2 with a home run and three RBI. JaNiyah Boykin also chipped in for Alabama State, putting together three hits in three trips to the plate while adding a walk and two RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hornets put runs on the scoreboard first, starting the scoring in the second inning. Alabama State's offense started clicking and put up five runs, including a three-run triple off the bat of Scott.
The Bulldogs failed to push any runs across before the Hornets offense got back to their scoring ways the next inning. The Alabama State offense exploded for 10 runs, highlighted by a grand slam off the bat of Scott, which brought the Hornets lead to 15-0.
Alabama A&M narrowed Alabama State's lead to 15-2 before the Hornets stretched the advantage to 22-2 in the fourth inning. The Hornets bats heated up in the inning, scoring seven runs, including a three-run home run off the bat of Williams and a two-run double from Arianna Cox-Cole. The score remained 22-2 for the rest of the game, as Alabama State coasted to the win.
