TROY, Ala. – Alabama State dropped a 5-2 decision to Troy on Thursday at the Lunsford Tennis Complex, despite claiming the doubles point and picking up a singles victory.
The Hornets opened the match strong by securing the doubles point with wins on courts two and three. The tandem of Matteo Lataste and Martin Catrice earned a 6-3 victory, while Milan Ristov and Eloi Roux battled to a 7-6 (7-2) win to give Alabama State the early 1-0 advantage.
Troy responded in singles play, winning five of six matches to clinch the team victory.
Vid Maric provided the lone singles win for Alabama State, rallying past Steph Tavares Noale in three sets, 6-4, 1-6, 6-2.
At the top of the lineup, Milan Ristov pushed his match to a tight first-set tiebreak before falling 7-6 (7-3), 6-2. Flor De Sitter (6-1, 6-4), Eloi Roux (7-5, 6-2), Martin Catrice (6-1, 6-1), and Loris Gueli (6-0, 6-1) also dropped straight-set decisions as Troy secured the remaining points.
