Alabama State Softball Sweeps Doubleheader from Mississippi Valley State

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Alabama State University softball delivered a dominant performance on Friday, sweeping a Southwestern Athletic Conference doubleheader from Mississippi Valley State at the Barbara Williams Softball Complex. The Hornets claimed a 9-1 victory in the opener before closing the day with an 8-0 shutout in game two.

Game 1: Alabama State 9, Mississippi Valley State 1

Alabama State wasted little time setting the tone, scoring twice in the first inning. Jaibriel Terrell drew a walk and advanced aggressively on the bases, while Arianna Cox-Cole drove in a run with a groundout to give the Hornets a 2-0 lead.

The Hornets extended their advantage in the third inning, plating two more runs on RBI hits from Terrell and Ayana Frank to push the lead to 4-0. After Mississippi Valley State scored its lone run in the fourth, Alabama State responded immediately. Tiffany Bruss delivered an RBI double in the fourth, followed by a run-scoring single from Talee Sims in the fifth.

The decisive blow came in the sixth inning. Sharon Parker drove in a run on a fielder's choice before Alana Scott capped the scoring with a two-run home run to center, sealing the 9-1 victory.

Scott led the offense with two hits, including the home run, and two RBIs, while Terrell and Frank each contributed an RBI. Bailee Williams also recorded a multi-hit game.

In the circle, Mason Quinnie earned the win, improving to 5-7 on the season. Quinnie tossed 5.2 innings in relief, allowing one run on seven hits while striking out two. Amanda Cintron made the start, working the opening inning.

Game 2: Alabama State 8, Mississippi Valley State 0

The Hornets carried their momentum into game two, breaking a scoreless tie in the second inning when Sharon Parker drove in Bailee Williams on a fielder's choice.

Alabama State broke the game open in the fourth inning. Bailee Williams delivered an RBI double before Brooke Ramsey followed with a two-run single, extending the lead to 4-0.

The Hornets continued to add on in the fifth inning with a four-run frame. Alana Scott tripled home a run, Williams added an RBI on a sacrifice fly, and Ramsey delivered another two-run single to cap the scoring at 8-0.

Ramsey paced the offense with three hits and four RBIs, while Scott and Williams each drove in two runs.

Kohana Pousson dominated in the circle, earning the win to improve to 9-6. Pousson threw a complete-game shutout, allowing just three hits over five innings while striking out six.
