Porsha Redd returned to Alabama State University as Head Cheer Coach in June 2024. She is a proud Montgomery, AL, native and an esteemed alumna of Alabama State University (ASU) and its cheer program. During her time at ASU, she also became a member of the Beta Eta Chapter of the illustrious Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. 

Coach Redd has been an educator with Montgomery Public Schools for more than 20 years. As both a coach and dedicated educator, she emphasizes the importance of academic excellence and athletic achievement, encouraging student-athletes to invest in their futures while making the most of their collegiate experience at ASU. 

Coach Redd has an extensive background in cheerleading and gymnastics, having served as a cheerleader, gymnastics instructor, coach, judge, consultant, and choreographer. She began cheering at a young age and continued throughout college, cheering at both Alabama State University and the former University of Missouri–Rolla. During her junior high and high school years, she earned UCA (Universal Cheerleading Association) All-Star (now known as UCA All-American) honors for four consecutive years. 

She taught gymnastics locally and coached at two junior high/middle schools and three high schools in Montgomery. While coaching locally, Coach Redd founded her own competitive all-star cheer program, which captured its first national championship in only its second year. She has more than 20 years of experience in school and all-star cheerleading and has earned numerous championship titles, including SWAC High School Champion and WCA ((World Cheerleading Association) Nationals Champion. 

After traveling abroad, Coach Redd returned to the United States and resumed coaching as an all-star coach in Atlanta, Georgia. Two years later, she returned to her hometown of Montgomery, Alabama, when an opportunity arose to pursue a new educational career path in January 2022. 

Coach Redd began her collegiate journey at Alabama State University before transferring with her family to the University of Missouri–Rolla, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in English. She later returned home and earned her Master's degree in Secondary English Education from Alabama State University. She is also nationally certified in Cheer Coach Spirit and Safety. 

In the spring of 2027, Coach Redd, alongside Coach Clifford Covington, led Alabama State University to its first appearance at the National Cheerleading Association (NCA) College Nationals in Daytona Beach, Florida—an important milestone in the history of the ASU Cheer program. She remains committed to building on that success by continuing to elevate the program, developing outstanding student-athletes, and pursuing championships at the national level.
