Courtney Stephens

Courtney Stephens is entering into his tenth season as an assistant basketball coach at ASU.  He handles all of the administrative duties for the Hornets.  Since his stint as an assistant coach he has been a part of three SWAC Championship teams, one regular season and two tournaments (2001, 2008, 2009).

 

From 1992-94, Stephens served in the United States Army, earning the rank of specialist.

 

In 1995, Stephens entered Kennedy King Community College, where he was a two-year letter winner in basketball.  That earned him a scholarship to Alabama State University were he played for the former head coach of ASU Rob Spivey in 1997.

 

Stephens graduated cum laude from Alabama State University with a degree in criminal justice in 2000.  Courtney is a member of the Black Coaches Association.

 

Coach Stephens is married to the former Kiya Powell of Monroe La.  They have two children: a daughter, Amari, and a son, Jaden.
