Morrie Turner enters his first year as an assistant coach for the Alabama State University track and field program after a successful stint at Coffeyville Community College.
Â
Turner served in a multitude of roles at Coffeyville including assistant track and field coach, while also serving as an instructor in sports management, academic advising, and was also the recruiting coordinator. He served as the sprints, jumps, and hurdles coach and helped the team program to a national ranking of #4. Following that season, he was awarded the USTFCCCA Regional Assistant Coach of the Year and was promoted to Associate Head Coach.
Â
Prior to his time at Coffeyville, he served on staff at Rogers State for five years beginning in July 2014. He also produced a national championship runner-up in the 200-meters while at Rogers State.
Â
He began his collegiate coaching career as a volunteer assistant at Oral Roberts where he helped with recruiting, budgeting, and planning. He worked with six conference champions, three NCAA West Regional qualifiers, and two NCAA qualifiers during his time at ORU. He left there and become an assistant coach at Jenks High School where helped multiple athletes qualify for the 6A state championship in sprints and jumps.
