Emma Johansen

Emma Johansen will be entering her second season for the 2015-2016 academic year with Alabama State University as an assistant softball coach.

Coach Emma was instrumental in helping the Lady Hornets sport the best all-around offense in the SWAC as the team held league-best marks in batting average (.321), slugging percentage (.465), on-base percentage (.391), runs scored (272), hits (471), RBI (247), doubles (79), triples (22), home runs (30), total bases (684), and hits by pitch (43).

Under her watch, Chelsea King was the recipient of three awards including Pitcher of the Year, Freshman of the Year and All-SWAC First Team for pitcher.

Junior Carly Evans was also a big winner, garnering both the Newcomer of the Year award and an All-SWAC First Team selection at first base. 

Joining King and Evans on the All-SWAC First Team were outfielders Valerie Centeno and Jenna Mae Thorne.

Junior Aleesa Yanez scooped up an All-SWAC Second Team nod at the catcher position.
 
Prior to ASU, Johansen was the assistant softball coach with Auburn University at Montgomery. She specialized in assisting with the slap hitters’ approach in the batter’s box and the fielding of the outfielders.
 
While with AUM, she played a role in leading the team to the 2014 NAIA National Championship and was a part of the 2014 NFCA NAIA staff that was named the Softball Coaching Staff of the Year.  Under her guidance, two of her outfielders were named to the SSAC All-Conference team and were NFCA All-East Region selections.

In December 2014, Jonansen was a part of the coaching staff at AUM that was recognized with the 2014 National Fast Pitch Softball Association Coaching Staff of the Year award. 
 
Among her many accomplishments as a player, Johansen was a 2013 SSAC First Team All-Conference selection and a NFCA All-East Region selection with AUM, a 2012 Gulf South All-Conference selection with UWF, and a 2011 Panhandle All-Conference selection with GCSC.
 
At AUM, Johansen was selected to the Southern States Athletic All-Conference Team.  As a center fielder, she batted .381 with a .410 slugging percentage to go along with a .439 on base percentage to help the team win the Southern States Athletic Conference West Division.  Johansen also led the team in batting average in both her junior and senior seasons. 
 
She graduated from Johnston City High School in Illinois in 2009.Â
