Emma Johansen will be entering her fourth season for the 2017-2018 academic year with Alabama State University as an assistant softball coach.
This past summer, Johansen coached the Swedish National Team in the European National Championships in Europe. Prior to that, she helped lead a Lady Hornets squad that finished as conference runner-up, while leading the league in hitting. She was instrumental in having four players (all hitters) make the all-conference teams, including first team selection Kendall Core.
In 2016, Johansen coached the Lady Hornets to the best all-around team rankings in the conference as Alabama State ranked first in the SWAC in team batting average (.321), first in runs scored (296), first in hits (482), first in doubles (92), second in triples (12), first in home runs (38), tied for second in stolen bases (50), second in ERA (4.51), second in strikeouts (225), second in fielding (.951 fielding percentage) and first in turning double plays (21). Â
Alabama State's 28 wins were the third highest single season amount of wins in the program, and the team led the SWAC with six All-Conference selections and two large award winners. Â
ASU won its first softball SWAC Championship by topping the defending SWAC Champions Texas Southern 18-8 at the Shea Brothers Softball Complex in Irondale, AL on May 14, 2016. Â In doing so, the Lady Hornets clinched its first NCAA Tournament berth. Â
Among the All-Conference award winners that coach Emma coached were SWAC Pitcher of the Year and First Team pitcher selection Maddie Phelps, Co-Freshman of the Year Charlene Castro, All-SWAC Tournament MVP Kendall Core, First Team Second Baseman selection Laura Aguilar, First Team catcher selection Aleesa Yanez, Second Team outfielder selection Jenna Mae Thorne, and Second Team pitcher selection Melissa Christmann.
Prior to ASU, Johansen was the assistant softball coach with Auburn University at Montgomery. She specialized in assisting with the slap hitters’ approach in the batter’s box and the fielding of the outfielders.
Â
While with AUM, she played a role in leading the team to the 2014 NAIA National Championship and was a part of the 2014 NFCA NAIA staff that was named the Softball Coaching Staff of the Year. Under her guidance, two of her outfielders were named to the SSAC All-Conference team and were NFCA All-East Region selections.
In December 2014, Johansen was a part of the coaching staff at AUM that was recognized with the 2014 National Fast Pitch Softball Association Coaching Staff of the Year award.Â
Â
Among her many accomplishments as a player, Johansen was a 2013 SSAC First Team All-Conference selection and a NFCA All-East Region selection with AUM, a 2012 Gulf South All-Conference selection with UWF, and a 2011 Panhandle All-Conference selection with GCSC.
Â
At AUM, Johansen was selected to the Southern States Athletic All-Conference Team. As a center fielder, she batted .381 with a .410 slugging percentage to go along with a .439 on base percentage to help the team win the Southern States Athletic Conference West Division. Johansen also led the team in batting average in both her junior and senior seasons.Â

She graduated from Johnston City High School in Illinois in 2009.Â
