David Roe is in his first year as the Director of Strategic Communications at Alabama State University, joining the Hornets on June 1, 2026.
Roe arrives in Montgomery from Kutztown University (Pa.), where he served as a graduate assistant for two years and assisted in the coverage of the Golden Bears' 23 Division II athletic programs. While in Eastern Pennsylvania, Roe was part of a team that hosted three NCAA football postseason games, NCAA Regional and Super Regional softball pods, and the East Coast Conference Women’s Bowling Championships.
Roe started his graduate studies at Saint Francis University (Pa.) in 2023 while working as the graduate assistant coach and sports contact for the Red Flash women’s bowling team. During his time in Loretto, he promoted the team’s success in its final season as a program, one that culminated in an appearance in the 2024 Northeast Conference Tournament.
The Lincoln, Calif., native spent two seasons at West Virginia University, contributing to the  U92 campus radio station, worked as a camera operator and utility for ESPN through their relationship with the Big 12 Conference, and covered wrestling, golf, and track and field for The Daily Athenaeum student newspaper in his first year in Morgantown. Roe's final year with the Mountaineers was spent working in the Athletics Communications office, where he assisted with publicity efforts for all 18 West Virginia University sports programs.
Roe is no stranger to the South, as he spent his first two years of college at Columbia International University (S.C.), where he was a member of the Rams cross country team in 2019 and a javelin thrower on the track and field team in 2020 and 2021. While in the Palmetto State, he assisted the Rams Athletic Department as a game operations student worker, helping with facilities, operations, and statistics coverage of 13 NAIA sports programs.
Throughout his time in college, Roe held roles in the ticketing and merchandising offices of the Columbia Fireflies (Low-A, Kansas City Royals) and West Virginia Black Bears (MLB Draft League) baseball teams. He also has been a freelance camera operator and utility for the Lehigh (Pa.) University Athletics Department while working events such as the 2022 Big 12 Swimming and Diving Championships.
Roe holds three degrees, most recently graduating from Kutztown University with a Master's of Business Administration in May of 2026. Additionally, he earned a Bachelor of Science in Journalism with a concentration in Sports Media from West Virginia University in 2023, and an Associate of Arts degree in Bible from Columbia International University in 2021.
