Porsha Redd returned to Alabama State University as the Head Cheer Coach in June, 2024.
She is a proud Montgomery, Ala., native and an esteemed alumna of Alabama State University (ASU) and its cheer program.
During her time at ASU, she became a member of the illustrious Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Coach Redd worked in Montgomery Public Schools for over 18 years and currently serves as the Cultural Heritage Coordinator at Alabama State University. As a coach and dedicated educator, she emphasizes the importance of both academics and athletics, encouraging student-athletes to invest in their futures while gaining valuable experiences at ASU.
Redd has an extensive background in cheerleading and gymnastics, having served as a cheerleader, gymnastics instructor, coach, judge, consultant, and choreographer. She started cheerleading at a young age and continued throughout high school, earning the honor of UCA All-Star for four consecutive years. She taught gymnastics locally and coached at two high schools in Montgomery. While coaching locally, Coach Redd began her own competitive all-star program, which won its first national title in its second year. She has over 20 years of experience in school and all-star cheerleading. During that time, she has claimed titles such as SWAC High Champion and WCA Nationals Champion.
After traveling abroad, Coach Redd returned to the United States and resumed coaching as an all-star coach in Atlanta, GA. However, she eventually returned to her hometown of Montgomery, AL, two years later when an opportunity arose for her to transition into a new educational career path in January 2022.
Redd began her collegiate journey at Alabama State University but transferred with her family to the University of Missouri at Rolla, where she completed her BA in English. She later returned to work and attained her Master’s degree in English Secondary Education from Alabama State University. Redd is also nationally certified in Cheer Coach Spirit and Safety.
Coach Redd is excited to bring her extensive knowledge and skills to the ASU cheerleaders. She is committed to elevating the ASU Cheer program to new heights and achieving many victories along the way.
