Lady Hornets Fall to Lady Bulldogs, 47-54

Huntsville, Ala –Katrich Williams of Alabama A&M University (6-9, 4-1) scored 17 points to set the tone for the Lady Bulldogs, giving the team its 54-47 win over the Lady Hornets (6-10, 3-2) at the T.M. Elmore Gymnasium Saturday night.

Fourteen turnovers in the first half set the Lady Bulldogs up for the lead. The Lady Hornets, down by 10 points, were able to counter attack and get within six points with a score of 30-24.

The Lady Hornets overcame a six-point deficit to come within two points of the Lady Bulldogs with 14 minutes on the clock.

Down by one point (35-34) at the 13:03 mark, the Lady Hornets brought the good old defense into play.  With 7:57 left on the clock, Erica Lumpkin hit a big three to tie the game 39-39.  Then the see-saw began on each end of the court with both teams hitting shots.  Turnovers played a consistent part as well.

A three-point shot at the tip of the key by center Chaymieyon Moss from Alabama A&M gave the Lady Bulldogs the lead with six minutes on the clock.

Trailing by four with 35 seconds left in the game, Alabama A&M took the game into overdrive and captured the win, bumping the Lady Hornets to Fourth place in SWAC conference play behind Prairie View, Southern and Alabama A&M.

L'Teisha Holloway and Jakayla Hill both led the Lady Hornets with 12 points each. Erica Lumpkin added nine and Tanika Jackson added eight points and six rebounds.

Whiquitta Tobar had nine points for Alabama A&M and Chaymieyon Moss added seven to the Lady Bulldogs' win.

The Lady Hornets return home for more SWAC action against the Jaguars of Southern University (7-6, 4-1) on January 24. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m. in the ASU Acadome.
