Hornets Host Alcorn State on Saturday

Come Support the ASU Hornets at Cramton Bowl
MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Alabama State Hornets conclude their season-long three-game home stand Saturday against Southwestern Athletic Conference rival Alcorn State.

ASU (3-3, 0-3) welcomes the SWAC's Eastern Division leading Braves (2-3, 2-1) for the squad's final home conference game of the year. Bama State's last remaining home contest is the Nov. 26 Turkey Day Classic versus Tuskegee.

After opening the season with three consecutive victories, Alabama State has dropped a trio of hard-fought contests, including a tough 23-12 loss to defending SWAC champion Grambling last Saturday at Cramton Bowl. Alcorn, which enters today's clash riding a two-game win streak, lost its first three games before posting wins over Mississippi Valley State and Alabama A&M.

Today's game marks the 36th all-time meeting between the Hornets and Braves with Alcorn holding a slight 18-15-1 edge in the series (ASU vacated one victory in the series). However, Alabama State has enjoyed some recent success versus Alcorn having won six straight, including a 24-17 victory in last year's match-up.

Alabama State remains one of the conference's most balanced squads. The Hornets own the league's second-ranked offense at 363 yards per game, including being the SWAC's third-rated rushing team at 150 yards an outing. The ASU defense ranks second in both yards allowed (average of 98 per game) and points allowed (18.8).

Tickets for Saturday's game can be purchased at the Cramton Bowl ticket office for $20 beginning at 11:30 a.m. The game also will be carried live on the radio by WVAS (90.7 FM).

Following the Alcorn State game, ASU turns its attention to the Magic City Classic and a battle against in-state rival Alabama A&M next Saturday at Legion Field in Birmingham.
