ATHENS, Ga. – In just the second meeting between Alabama State and the Georgia Lady Bulldogs, the Lady Hornets fell 75-48 Wednesday evening at Stegeman Coliseum.
Georgia got out of the gates quickly taking a 15-2 lead in the first half. ASU (1-3) struggled to get things going on the offensive end and also allowed some costly offensive rebounds to UGA.
The Lady Hornets did not score their second basket until Briana Thomas connected on a jumper with 14:38 left in the first half.
Alabama State continued to battle and pulled within six points of the Lady Dogs with 8:32 remaining in the first period.
Georgia used an intense defense that forced ASU into 28 turnovers for the game and kept ASU from getting into any kind of flow.
During the second half, the Lady Hornets went nearly five minutes without a basket until Quortini Fambro connected on one of her three treys on the night to halt the drought.
Alabama State finished with a flurry scoring the final six points of the game bringing the score to 75-48 at the whistle.
Tanika Jackson was the only Lady Hornet in double figures finishing with 10 points to go along with her team-best six rebounds. Fambro chipped in nine points, going 3-5 from three-point range.
Thomas shared team rebounding honors with Jackson pulling down six boards while also scoring six points. Shanice Merritt finished with six points and had three rebounds for ASU.
Georgia put four players in double digits led by Jasmine James' game-high 17 point performance. Ashley Houts and Ann Marie Armstrong each tallied 13 points with Porsha Phillips adding 11.
The Lady Hornets return home to face Savannah State Monday at 6 p.m. at the ASU Acadome.
