ASU Travels to Jackson State on Saturday

JACKSON, Miss. –The Alabama State University football team meets Jackson State in an important Southwestern Athletic Conference game Saturday at 4 p.m. at Mississippi Veterans Memorial Coliseum.

The game marks the final away game for the Hornets (4-4, 1-4 SWAC). In the squad's only other true road game at Savannah State, the Hornets earned a hard fought 20-17 victory. ASU has won its last two games on their opponent's home field.

Bama State enters Saturday's matchup looking to rebound from an emotional loss to rival Alabama A&M last Saturday in the Magic City Classic. Jackson State (2-5, 2-2 SWAC) comes into the contest following a bye week and hopes to build on its 25-16 victory Oct. 24 over Mississippi Valley State. The game is homecoming for the Tigers, who are in search of their first home win of the year (0-3).

This marks the 37th ASU-JSU meeting on the gridiron with the Tigers owning a 26-7-1 advantage in the series. The Hornets have won six of the last nine meetings, but JSU is currently riding a three-game win streak against ASU.

Defense highlights this contest as both teams rank among the league leaders. Jackson State ranks second in total defense allowing just 269.1 yards per game and tops the SWAC in pass defense at just 147.4 ypg. Alabama State is third in the conference in total defense at 292.2 yards per game and is second in rush defense allowing only 91.9 ypg. The Hornets defense has not allowed a 100-yard performance by an opposing rusher this season.

The game will be carried live on WVAS (90.7 FM).

Tickets can be purchased through Ticketmaster and by contacting the JSU ticket office at 601-979-2420, or at Veterans Memorial Stadium on game day. Game day ticket prices are $50 for box seats, $40 for reserved seats and $25 general admission.

ASU closes the season Nov. 14 with a neutral site game against Southern in Mobile, and the annual Turkey Day Classic versus Tuskegee Nov. 26 in Cramton Bowl.
