ASU SOCCER WINS SECOND STRAIGHT
MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Alabama State University Soccer team is on a two game winning streak after defeating Grambling State 2-1. The lady Hornets continue to make history. The victory marks the first time they've won back to back contest. In addition, this is the first win over GSU in the program's existence.
Both ASU goals came from senior forward Monique Sylvester. Stephanie Howard assisted Sylvester on the first score of the game at the 11:37 mark of the first period. A corner kick with 32:56 left in the match is when Sylvester notched her second score of the game.
“We're starting to find ways to score which is something we struggled to do earlier” Head coach Jodie Smith said. “Most importantly, we're making fewer mistakes defensively”.
Grambling's Ashley Ramirez tied the match up in the first period with an unassisted goal at the 19:28 mark. However, Sylvester's corner kick gave ASU the lead for good. Goalie Chelsea Nash finished with the saves for the lady hornets. Meanwhile, Danielle Miller and Lenna Lamas both had two shot attempts apiece.
ASU travels to Jackson State and Southern University this weekend for a two game road swing. The matches are set to start at 1 pm and 4 pm respectively.
