MONTGOMERY, Ala. –The Alabama State Women's basketball team jumped out to a quick 10-0 lead and never looked back defeating Oakwood College 112-29 Tanika Jackson scored a career high leading all scorers with 42 points and pulling down 10 rebounds. Jackson's double-double notched the 19th of her career.
Jackson scored 26 of her 42 points in the first half as the lady hornets led 57-15 at the halftime. ASU shot a blazing 59 percent from the field and forced 27 Oakwood turnovers. The victory ended a five game losing streak for the lady hornets. They're now 2-5 on the season. The Lady Ambassadors dropped to 3-10 overall.
“I feel pretty good about the game”. Head coach Freda Freeman-Jackson said. “I felt as if we played under control and with a lot of structure”. Three other lady hornets scored in double figures including Yahindra Edwards with 17, Millicent Jones scored 13, and Quentori Alford chipped in 11 points. Kim Pointer led Oakwood with 17 points on the evening.
Next Monday the ASU women will travel to Gainesville to take part in the Gator Holiday Tournament at the University of Florida. Tip-off for the two day affair is set for 7:30 pm.
