HUNTSVILLE, Ala. -- Despite Tanika Jackson's 11th double-double of the season, the Alabama State University women's basketball team couldn't outrun Alabama A&M in a 73-63 loss Saturday night at T.M. Elmore Gymnasium.

Jackson finished with 29 points and 10 rebounds for ASU, who slips to 8-13 overall and 5-7 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference. The Lady Bulldogs improved to 12-9 and 8-4 with the victory.

Alabama A&M set the tone early in the first half of play taking a seven point lead after only four minutes of action.  Alabama State countered and slowly chipped away at an 11-point deficit eventually pulling to within five at the 9:06 mark.

Thirteen turnovers in the first half by the Lady Hornets gave the Lady Bulldogs 10 of their 41 points in the frame. AAMU held an 11 point lead at the half, 41-30.

AAMU kept the momentum going early in the second half building as large as a 19 point lead with 17:56 left on the clock. Late defensive play by the Lady Hornets brought them within eight points at the 1:03 mark.

The Lady Bulldogs were led by Katrich Williams' 22 points followed by Whiquitta Tobar with 13 and Shaurice Miller with 12 points and nine rebounds.

The Lady Hornets return home for more SWAC action against Alcorn State on February 20. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m. in the Dunn-Oliver Acadome.
