PRAIRIE VIEW, Tx. – The Alabama State Women's basketball team trailed by 10 at the half and could not get any closer than eight in the second half, falling to Prairie View A&M 59-36. This was game one of the current Texas road swing for The Lady Hornets.
Poor shooting really plagued ASU as they could only manufacture eight points through the first 8:22 of the second half. The Lady Hornets shot 27% in the first half. Meanwhile, PVAMU shot a blistering 62% in the first half.
“It is going to be very hard for us to win games if we play this bad especially with a good opponent like Prairie View”. Head coach Freda Freeman-Jackson said. “We still have not corrected our problems with turnovers and that must improve”. Coach Jackson stated.
Tanika Jackson led ASU in scoring with 14 points and eight rebounds. No other player scored in double figures for The Lady Hornets. Dominque Smith led all scorers with 17 for Prairie View. She also pulled down 12 rebounds.
“It is just a matter of gaining confidence right now”. Coach Jackson said. “Going forward our girls must listen to the coaches and figure this out”. The loss drops ASU to 4-14 overall and 1-7 in the conference. They are now on a five game losing streak. Prairie View 10-9 overall and 6-2 in the SWAC.
Next up for ASU, they will stay in the state of Texas and square up with Texas Southern. Tip-off is marked for 5:00 pm
