LADY HORNETS ROAD STRUGGLES CONTINUE
HOUSTON, TX. - The Alabama State University Women's basketball team fell apart in the second half against Texas Southern. The Lady Hornets could not overcome several turnovers, causing them to lose their sixth consecutive game by a final of 68-45.
Trailing 33-19 at the end of the first half, ASU cut that deficit to within six. With 15:36 left to go The Lady Hornets trailed 36-30, but from there TSU went on a 23-6 run creating a 20 point hole which they were never able to climb out of.
“We were our worst enemy tonight”. Head coach Fred Freeman-Jackson stated. “We had 14 turnovers in the first half and that is not basketball”. ASU finished the game with 22 turnovers all together, as a result, TSU scored 23 points from those errors.
Tanika Jackson led both teams in scoring. Jackson notched a double-double with 20 points and 16 rebounds. She was the only Lady Hornet to score in double figures. Sierra Highgate led The Lady Tigers with 14 points. Jasmine Cannon and Gabrielle Rosiji both chipped in 10 points apiece.
“We did a pretty good job in the first half”. Coach Jackson stated. “We had a nice tempo going, but in the second half it got away from us”.
The Lady Hornets will return home to host there next three opponents starting with Arkansas Pine-Bluff. Tip-off this Saturday from the Dunn-Oliver Acadome is set for 3:00 pm
