Volleyball To Face SWAC Eastern Division Rival Jackson State

The Alabama State volleyball team will kick off phase II of Southwestern Athletic Conference play Saturday night after winning four straight matches.  The Lady Hornets will play host to Jackson State at 6 p.m. in Lockhart Gymnasium.

 

Alabama State is riding a four-match winning streak.   The Lady Hornets boast an 11-16 overall record and are currently atop of the SWAC standings with a 2-0 conference mark.

 

“This is an important game for us, stated Head Coach Penny Lucas-White.  “The girls are becoming confident in their play as would any team we look forward to a good healthy game. “

 

Setter Ana Pego is averaging 8.89 assists per game and is currently ranked second in the conference in assists.  Maya Bell still leads the Lady Hornets in kills and is atop of the conference with 423 total kills averaging 4.59 kills per game.  Bell is also ranked third in the conference in service aces and ninth in the nation.

 

Jackson State will bring a 15-9 overall record, including a 1-0 SWAC ledger, into Lockhart Gym Saturday evening.  The Tigers are on an 11 game win streak as they enter this weekend's contest.  Their last win came over Arkansas Pine-Bluff garnishing a 3-0 victory Wednesday night in mid-week action.

 

Donish Dunn and Paige Williams are ranked one and two in hitting percentage for the Tigers.  Dunn is averaging a .291 hitting percentage and Williams is averaging .283.  Christine Edwards is second in the conference in kills.  On the defensive front, Kameron Bogan is posting 1.01 blocks per game along with teammate Williams who is leading in the conference in blocks with 1.34 per game.
