HOUSTON – The Alabama State University football team had its Friday walkthrough practice at Delmar Stadium, site of Saturday's Southwestern Athletic Conference game at 1 p.m.
The game will be broadcast live on WVAS 90.7 FM and video streamed live over the internet free of charge on the Texas Southern athletic website. Hornets Football Gameday Central on bamastatesports.com will have live links to the radio broadcast as well as the video stream.
Alabama State (4-1 overall, 4-0 SWAC) arrived here today after a morning flight from Montgomery. The team had a few hours of rest before going through its customary Friday afternoon walkthrough, which was very energetic in the warm, windy conditions at Delmar Stadium.
“Sometimes the flight can drain you, but for our guys it wasn't an issue,” head coach
Reggie Barlow said. “It was good to get them out here and moving around. They've had good energy all year and hopefully we can continue that tomorrow.”
The game is a rematch of not only last December's SWAC Championship Game in Birmingham, but also an October regular season meeting in Montgomery. Texas Southern (2-2, 1-2) won both matchups last season en route to winning the SWAC Championship. That fact, along with the Hornets' quest to remain unbeaten at the halfway point of the SWAC schedule, is paramount to Barlow.
“It's a huge game for us,” Barlow said. “It's midseason. If we can take care of business and put it behind us, we would have played six games overall and be in a good position. For all the reasons I told the players - TSU beat us twice last year, we need to be 5-0 in the conference and because we just need to continue to show ourselves and everyone else that we are a good team and a team to be reckoned with, it's a huge game for all of those reasons.”
