Freshman outside hitter Maya Bell has been named the Southwestern Athletic Conference volleyball Newcomer of the Week as announced by the conference office today. This will make the third time the California native has received this honor.
Bell is averaging 4.53 kills per set she has tallied a team-high of 385 and has 45 service aces on the season thus far. Bell is ranked 17th in kills and 8th in aces in the nation.
Last weekend during the UMES tournament she tallied 58 kills, one service ace, 29 digs and four blocks. Bell was also named to the UMES All-tournament team.
The Lady Hornets are on the road this weekend in Baton Rouge, La. where they will face SWAC west division Texas Southern and Prairie View during the Southern University Invitational.
