Lady Hornets to Open Season at Georgia Tech

The Alabama State women's basketball team will open its 2011-12 season Friday night, November 11 at 4:30 p.m. CST as the Lady Hornets play Georgia Tech in Atlanta.

“Playing Georgia Tech, which is an ACC school means that we are going to be playing against a bigger and faster team and they are going to be able to put the ball in the basketball,” Coach Freda Freeman-Jackson stated.  We are going to have our work cut out for us as we invite the challenge. I think our girls are up for the game.  We are also going to work hard and try to get the win and just not be participants in the game.  We know that when you're playing an ACC school you're going to have your work cut for you.”

The Lady Hornets Head Coach Freda Freeman-Jackson is entering her 14th season with Alabama State as she has a 200-183 mark at the school in 13 years of work.  This will only be the second meeting between these two teams in women's basketball.  Georgia Tech leads the overall series 1-0 the last meeting was dated back to the 2005-06 season.

Alabama State finished the 2010-11 season with an 8-22 record overall.  ASU has four starters and 10 letterwinners returning from last year's squad.  Senior guard, Tamara Wadlington led the team in assist and was second in scoring.  She averaged 7.3 ppg and handed out 103 assists.

Quentori Alford a sophomore center was second on the team in rebounding last season with a 4.1 rpg mark.
