Hornets Ready for Jaguars

The Alabama State University football team had its final practice Friday afternoon as the Hornets will take on the Southern Jaguars Saturday afternoon at Cramton Bowl.

The Hornets (7-2 overall, 7-1 SWAC) will host Southern (3-6, 3-4) at 1 p.m. in a game that will be streamed live over the internet at bamastatesports.com for $5.95. WVAS 90.7 FM will have a live broadcast of the game. Hornets Gameday Football Central will have all the links for live stats, live radio and live video.

Saturday is the “Black Out Game”, as the Hornets are encouraging all fans to wear black. Tomorrow's game is also the  Military Salute Game, as Alabama State University says thank you to the military servicemen and women who protect our freedom.

The Hornets remain in contention for the SWAC Eastern Division title. Currently tied with Alabama A&M in the loss column, Alabama State must finish ahead of the Bulldogs in the standings to repeat as Eastern Division Champions. Alabama A&M plays Jackson State Saturday at 1 p.m. in Huntsville.

“They were not their normal fun selves today,” head coach Reggie Barlow said. “They understand how big this game is and what's at stake. My talk to them tonight will be more in detail about Southern and the three and four things it will take for us to win it.”

Alabama State started fast last week in its win at Arkansas-Pine Bluff, scoring touchdowns on the opening two possessions to begin the game. Barlow says starting fast is again one of the keys to be successful against the Jaguars.

“We have to get off to fast start again in all three phases,” Barlow said. “I don't know where Southern is from a confidence stand point but our mindset has to be we have to take whatever confidence they have away from them. The only way we can do that is by playing really fast and really well.”
