2011 SWAC Freshman of the Year
Maya Bell leads Alabama State volleyball to its first win in the 2011 SWAC Volleyball Tournament over Grambling, 3-0. Alabama State won with the scores 25-17, 25-19. 25-15. Alabama State improves to 14-20 for the season.
“The team did a great job today,” Head Coach
Penny Lucas-White stated. “This is just the beginning we have a long day and a long road ahead of us. We played hard and we also played thru the injuries that we encountered during the match. I am really proud of the ladies.”
Bell had a match-high of 14 kills. Senior
Ana Pego handed out 37 assists in the match, while junior
Roselande Corneille had 10 kills and
Asia Manning also assisted with eight kills and five digs.
Luiza Griz had 11 digs in the victory.
Alabama State will return to action at 3:00 p.m. this afternoon and face the winner of game 3 between Jackson State and Texas Southern in Westwego at the Alario Center.
