Hornets to Play Final Game of Season in Turkey Day Classic

The Alabama State University Football Team had its final practice of the 2011 season today as the Hornets are set to take on the Tuskegee Golden Tigers in Thursday's 88th Turkey Day Classic.

The game on Thanksgiving Day kicks off shortly after 3 p.m. and will be broadcast live on WVAS 90.7 FM and televised live on ESPNU.

“It went by pretty fast. I guess we were having a good time,” head coach Reggie Barlow said of the final workout of the season. “It was a good last walkthrough practice of the season and I'm looking forward to a big-time game tomorrow.”

The mood and energy was upbeat and loose under a glistening sky at Hornet Stadium.

“I think they are in really good spirits,” Barlow said. “We've had a really good week of practice. They are their normal joking selves, good and relaxed. We're still a while from the game, since we had an earlier walkthrough today. We'll let them be themselves up until we get to the hotel tonight and lock in on Tuskegee.”

The season finale is also Homecoming at Alabama State, a time that is special for Barlow at his alma mater.

“For so long, I'd always been really focused on the playing or coaching aspects of the game,” Barlow said. “I'd never really enjoyed the camaraderie of it. I said I wanted to enjoy that a little bit more this year and embrace it. I've enjoyed the week and looking forward to the game.”
